It’s been twenty years since the death of Apollon footballer Gabor Zavadszky on January 6th. His passing brought sadness to Cypriot football.

“Today is January 6th. We remember January 6th, 2006, the day we lost our player Gabor Zavadszky. Twenty years later, we still hold his memory close to our hearts.
Gabor joined our team in January 2005. He was signed during the winter transfer window of 2004-05. Before that, he played for Ferencváros, MTK Budapest, and Dunaferr. He was an attacking midfielder but played as a libero under coach Bernd Stange in the second half of the 2004-05 season.
He helped our team navigate tough times during the championship. Although he had limited playing time in the 2005-06 season, he never caused any issues. The last time he wore Apollon’s jersey was on January 4th, 2006, in a cup match against APEP Pitsilia. He came on as a substitute for Radek Michalski in the 71st minute.
In honor of Gabor Zavadszky, Apollon has retired the number “7” that he wore.
We will always remember Apollon’s smiling boy… Gabor, you will live forever in our hearts!”
