The Paphos Police are looking into a planned murder after a 41-year-old Bulgarian man was fatally injured. He was stabbed in the abdomen on Saturday night in Pegeia.
As reported by the Cyprus News Agency, a 30-year-old relative of the victim has been arrested. He appeared in the Paphos District Court on Sunday. The court allowed his detention for eight days to help with the investigation. According to investigator Andreas Hatzivasili, the incident happened around 23:40 after a meeting between those involved to clear up a misunderstanding. During the fight, the victim allegedly damaged the suspect’s car with a piece of wood, prompting the 30-year-old to stab him in the abdomen.
The knife was still in the body of the 41-year-old when he was taken to Paphos General Hospital for surgery. Sadly, despite doctors’ efforts, he passed away from his injuries around 04:00. The victim has been identified as Georgi Marinov Ivanov. During questioning, the suspect admitted to the stabbing but said he didn’t mean to kill him.
The police investigation is just starting. Authorities are waiting for 25 more testimonies, conducting scientific tests at the scene, and checking vehicles and locations. The official autopsy will take place on Monday.
