A 63-year-old prisoner from Cyprus was found dead in his cell today at the Central Prisons. This happened around 15:55 when a staff member saw that the inmate had no vital signs.
Medical services and an ambulance were called right away. The 63-year-old was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of the General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Early signs suggest his death might be due to cardiac arrest. An autopsy is scheduled for today to find out the exact cause. The man was serving a life sentence for a double murder he committed in February 2021 in a village in the Nicosia District. The Prison Department is working with the relevant authorities to investigate this case further.
