On Saturday afternoon, a gathering took place at Freedom Park followed by a march to the US Embassy in Athens. This was in protest against the military operation and the arrest of Nicolás Maduro.
Thousands of demonstrators chanted slogans such as: “This is the ‘peace’ of the Americans, bombs in Caracas and the massacre of nations” and “Bombs are dropped by imperialism, the ‘peacemaker’ is a war hawk.” Meanwhile, the Greek community living in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital, is experiencing anxious times following recent attacks.
According to ERT, all community members are in good health. At daybreak, even residents from areas far from Caracas rushed to stores to stock up on food. A citizen who recently arrived in Athens shared with ERTnews the situation as described by his relatives: “The fear is great, they might bomb again. Everyone has weapons, all groups.”
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted immediately. In a post on X, it emphasized that “the Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela, in close cooperation with European partners and the Embassy in Caracas, which is in contact with the Greek community in the country and is ready to provide assistance.”
