Coordinated Effort to Tarnish My Name with Slander…»-Responds to Publications and the Mayor of Strovolos
Andreas Papacharalambous describes the reports that surfaced as malicious and responds with a sharp statement, criticizing the current Mayor of Strovolos, Mr. Stavros Stavrinidis, for false publications, restoring the truth, and emphasizing the transparency of his actions.
The former Mayor, Andreas Papacharalambous, emphasizes that the false headlines and misleading statements represent a politically cheap and morally void attempt to tarnish his name. He clarifies that all actions concerning the company’s case were conducted with full transparency, benefiting the Municipality and its employees, without any harm to the Municipality of Strovolos.
In his statement, he highlights that his personal journey remains clean, while reserving all legal rights to address the malicious libels.

«To restore the truth:
1. The case involves a company undergoing restructuring for its loans, which was unable to meet its obligations to the Municipality of Strovolos. If the company failed to restructure its loans, it would have gone bankrupt, resulting in the permanent loss of all money owed to the Municipality since 2002, as well as future income.
2. As a result of the negotiation, the Municipality lifted the memo on 15/1/2020 and reinstated it two days later to facilitate the transfer of loans to another bank. Additionally, a payment of €200,000 was agreed upon along with a repayment plan for remaining debts.
3. Despite false and misleading claims by the current Mayor of Strovolos, Mr. Stavrinidis, in a front-page article in the newspaper “Alithia” dated 6/1/2025 stating “the check was never deposited but returned to the issuer, resulting in no money received by the Municipality,” the amount of €200,000 was fully paid to the Municipality by check dated 16/1/2020. The check was cashed by the Municipality of Strovolos on 22/1/2020.
4. No priority for debts was lost either before or after the temporary lifting of the memo, as the initial burden on the Municipality was subsequent to the bank’s original mortgage.
5. This decision allowed the company to continue its business activities and meet its obligations. Today, the Municipality retains collection capabilities from this company. Additionally, dozens of jobs were saved in this company operating within our Municipality.
6. Not a single cent from the debt was forgiven, nor was there any damage to the Municipality in any way.
7. The process resulted from meetings held transparently during daylight hours. With fully transparent procedures involving exchanges of letters and recorded events in the presence of municipal officials.
The brutal distortion of truth as an attempt to distract from real societal scandals is politically cheap and morally void. My path is clear and indisputable. The momentum of my candidacy with ELAM’s ballot for upcoming parliamentary elections is not hindered. I reserve all my legal rights and have instructed my legal advisors to proceed with legal actions against malicious libels».
