Around 2:20 AM, a serious traffic accident happened on the Limassol–Nicosia highway, near Mosfiloti. Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt, despite the vehicle collision and fire.
According to the Police, a 31-year-old driver lost control of his car for reasons still being looked into. He hit the right and left barriers several times before stopping in the right lane.
The 31-year-old got out of his car, turned on the hazard lights, and moved to the space between the two lanes. Soon after, a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old, with another 20-year-old passenger, crashed into the parked car. This caused a fire in their vehicle.
Luckily, both young men got out before the Fire Service arrived. Their car was completely destroyed by the fire. They suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Emergency Department of Nicosia General Hospital. The 31-year-old driver did not need to go to the hospital. Alcohol tests for all drivers came back negative.
The Pera Chorio Police Station is still investigating what caused the accident.
