Two recent drug cases show that this issue is common and close to home, as drugs are still around us.
The Anti-Drug Service (YKAN) arrested two people for illegal drug possession on January 10 in Larnaca and Limassol. In the first case, around noon in Larnaca, a 39-year-old man on a motorcycle was involved in a traffic accident with a car driven by a 51-year-old woman.
The 39-year-old suffered minor injuries and was taken to Larnaca General Hospital by ambulance. After receiving a tip, YKAN members (Larnaca Unit) visited him at the hospital. During a search, they found 24 nylon bags of methamphetamine weighing about 14.7 grams in his possession. The 39-year-old was arrested for a serious offense and was also found to be driving without a license or insurance.
In the second case, YKAN members (Limassol Unit) searched the home of a 24-year-old in Limassol and discovered three nylon bags of cocaine weighing about 2.2 grams in a safe, along with a precision scale. The 24-year-old was arrested for a serious offense. During the search, they also found 1,875 euros, which is being looked into for possible links to drug trafficking. YKAN’s investigations are ongoing.
