VIRAL: The video that “scored” views – Annita vs Taliadoros 1-0 (Video)

The response from the President of the House, Annita Demetriou, to the president of OELMEK, Dimitris Taliadoros, was striking – and far from… awkward – in light of his remark that she arrived late to parliament. The moment was captured on camera and, as expected, went viral online.

This exchange took place during the submission of a memorandum from OELMEK to the President of the House regarding the evaluation of teachers. At that moment, Mr. Dimitris Taliadoros addressed Ms. Annita Demetriou, saying: “Unfortunately, you were a bit late.” The President of the House did not let his comment go unchallenged, responding: “You have a habit of making remarks about women, though.” Mr. Taliadoros reacted by asking: “Did I mention anything about women?”, to which Ms. Demetriou clarified: “I wasn’t late; you don’t set my schedule. Did we not have an appointment and I didn’t come?”

This statement was enough to “ignite” social media, with many discussing it as a clear stance that sets boundaries and reminds of roles.

The dialogue continued with Mr. Taliadoros asking Did we have an appointment and I didn’t come?”. The discussion ended there, without further tension, and the memorandum was subsequently submitted. The president of OELMEK also noted that his colleagues had already left to return to their duties at schools, thus emphasizing the importance of their presence in educational institutions. It is worth mentioning that Mr. Taliadoros was called to respond to criticisms he received for a recent comment that some members of the public deemed sexist. He stated: “If people consider my statement to be sexist, I withdraw it.”, attempting to lower the tone, though not completely extinguishing the reactions it provoked.
