A shocking event happened in a coastal area of Paphos. Four workers from the Chlorakas Community Council mishandled a sea turtle. A tourist who was there captured the incident and was shocked by what they saw.
Initial reports say the employees thought the turtle was dead and went to remove it. The police took the turtle for an autopsy to find out how it died, and the investigation is still ongoing.

The Chlorakas Community Council expressed regret about the incident. They said this behavior doesn’t match their values or usual practices. They are waiting for the investigation results to decide on any disciplinary actions. Antonia Theodosiou, the Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare, pointed out that there are clear procedures for handling even dead animals. She stressed the need for training local authority staff.
Marina Argyrou, the Director of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, along with the Green Movement, urged everyone to respect wildlife. They highlighted that incidents like this hurt efforts to protect marine animals.
