So far, 13 hospitalized patients have died from confirmed flu cases this epidemic season. This includes a recent death of a 54-year-old man in a private hospital, as shared by Dr. Elisavet Konstantinou, Deputy General Director of the Ministry of Health.

Most deaths are among elderly people with serious health issues. However, the death of the 54-year-old shows that the flu can affect younger adults too.

According to the latest data, the outbreak seems to have peaked and is slowly declining. This is true for both new cases and hospitalizations.

Even with more pressure on hospitals, things are still under control. There are enough antiviral medications and diagnostic tests available. The Ministry of Health encourages those who haven’t been vaccinated, especially high-risk individuals, to get vaccinated right away and follow basic protective measures.
