Appearance in Apology Video by Phidias Panayiotou-(Video)
Para-athlete Marios Philippou does not agree to show his face in the apology video by MEP Phidias Panayiotou. This was confirmed by the Cyprus Confederation of Disabled Organizations (CYSOA), which represents him.
CYSOA’s statement says, “The unacceptable comment Mr. Panayiotou claims he did not mean has been publicly shown for two months. Blaming society’s outrage on political motives is offensive.”
The Confederation also stresses that “it’s a serious democratic issue to blame political motives when basic human rights are at stake.” This case has caused strong reactions due to the MEP’s offensive comment in a podcast, showing the need for respect for the rights of people with disabilities.
