Appearance in Apology Video of Phidias Panayiotou-(Video)
Para-athlete Marios Filippou does not agree to show his face in the apology video of MEP Phidias Panayiotou. This was confirmed by the Cyprus Confederation of Disabled Organizations (CYSOA), acting on his behalf.
CYSOA’s statement says, “The unacceptable remark Mr. Panayiotou claims he did not mean has been public for two months. Blaming society’s outrage on political motives is an insult.”
The Confederation also states, “Claiming political motives while defending basic human rights shows a serious democratic issue.” The case has caused strong reactions due to the MEP’s offensive comment in a podcast. It highlights the need to respect the rights and dignity of people with disabilities.
