Appearance in Apology Video by Phidias Panayiotou-(Video)
Para-athlete Marios Philippou does not allow his image to be used in the apology video by MEP Phidias Panayiotou. This was confirmed by the Cyprus Confederation of Disabled People’s Organizations (CYSOA), acting on his behalf.
CYSOA’s statement says, “The unacceptable remark Mr. Panayiotou claims he did not mean has been publicly shown for two months. It’s an insult to link society’s outrage to political motives.”
The Confederation also states, “Claiming political motives while defending basic human rights shows a serious democratic gap.” The case has led to strong reactions due to the MEP’s offensive comment in a podcast. It highlights the need to respect the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities.
