Para-athlete Marios Filippou does not agree to use his face in the apology video by MEP Phidias Panayiotou. This was confirmed by the Cyprus Confederation of Disabled Organizations (CYSOA), which represents him.
CYSOA stated, “The unacceptable comment Mr. Panayiotou claims he did not mean has been publicly shown for two months. Blaming society’s outrage on political motives is an insult.”
The Confederation also stressed that “blaming political motives when basic human rights are defended shows a serious democratic deficit.” The case drew strong reactions due to the MEP’s offensive comment in a podcast, highlighting the need to respect the rights and dignity of people with disabilities.
