Para-athlete Marios Filippou does not agree to show his face in the apology video of MEP Pheidias Panayiotou. This was confirmed by the Cyprus Confederation of Disabled Organizations (CYSOA) on his behalf.
CYSOA states that “the unacceptable comment Mr. Panayiotou says he did not mean has been public for two months. Blaming society’s outrage on political motives is insulting.”
The Confederation also stresses that “claiming political motives when defending basic human rights shows a serious democratic issue.” This case has caused strong reactions due to the MEP’s podcast remark, which many found offensive. It highlights the need to respect the rights and dignity of people with disabilities.
