The Cyprus Police Association is very upset about the serious incidents that happened yesterday at the GSP stadium. This followed the APOEL–AEK match, where around 150 APOEL fans damaged service vehicles, threw stones at police officers, and stole police equipment.
To handle the situation, riot control teams used some chemicals and sprayed water from their vehicle. The CPA highlights that these events show the end of a chaotic situation that some allowed to grow in stadiums. They stress the need to fully protect police officers and to quickly use all means to find and arrest those responsible.
It’s important to mention that three people were taken to Nicosia General Hospital early this morning after a serious road accident on the Limassol – Nicosia highway, near GSP. A patrol car with two police officers was in the safety lane for road checks when, for unknown reasons, a truck hit it from behind. All three – the two police officers and the truck driver – were injured and taken to the hospital for check-ups.
