The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) shared that Cypriot referees will be involved this year. They also mentioned that foreign referees will be used on the field when needed, along with foreign VAR appointments.
Detailed Announcement:
“After the 22nd round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan, it’s important to note that all on-field referee appointments have been only Cypriot referees so far.
This year, the performance of Cypriot referees has been viewed positively and shows promise for further growth.
Their efforts have greatly helped the CFA reach its goal of increasing their presence in top matches, surpassing initial hopes.
A key factor in this success was Chief Referee Antonio Damato, who supported and applied the CFA’s strategic plan consistently.
As we near the end of the first phase of the championship and look ahead to the second phase, the Chairman of the Refereeing Committee informed CFA leaders that foreign referees will be used on-field when necessary, along with foreign VAR appointments.
The CFA fully backs the Chairman of the Refereeing Committee and ensures he has what he needs to do his job well.
It’s important to note that using foreign referees does not undermine Cypriot referees. The main goal is to improve Cypriot refereeing overall, keeping pace with the growth of Cypriot football.”
