The premiere of Loula Anagnostaki’s famous play, “To Those Who Hear Me,” directed by Thanasis Georgiou, was a big hit at the New Stage “Nikos Charalambous” of the Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOC).
The audience, filled with important figures from politics, culture, and institutions, gave a warm round of applause. This showed how powerful the play is, even though it was written in 2003. It feels almost like a prediction for today.
The story takes place in an apartment in multicultural Berlin, where nine characters deal with social unrest outside and their own personal struggles. As the city “boils” with protests and tensions, the characters speak to an imaginary audience. Their confessions are filled with irony, humor, pain, and honesty, revealing traumas, fears, and dreams that never came true.
“To Those Who Hear Me” deeply explores memory, alienation, political reality, and human loneliness. Loula Anagnostaki’s strong writing creates a fragile world where personal experiences meet history. The characters share their truths and wounds while searching for meaning in a constantly changing world.

Thanasis Georgiou’s direction shows great respect and sensitivity, transforming the stage into a space where internal conflicts come to life. The actors deliver performances that feel immediate and genuine. This helps the audience connect with the characters and see parts of their own lives in them.
The team’s contribution is also vital, with Lydia Mandridou’s sets and costumes, Fotis Nikolaou’s movement direction, Yiannis Christofides’ music and sound design, and Giorgos Koukoumas’ lighting all enhancing the performance’s atmosphere.

On stage are Thanasis Georgiou, Stavros Dimopoulos, Fanos Theofanous, Sophia Kalli, Melina Koutsoufta, Andreas Koutsoumpas, Maria Constantinou or Rafaella Kavazi, Chris Spyrou, and Niovi Charalambous, forming a cast that brings depth to the play.
The Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOC) continues this production in Nicosia and will tour cities across Cyprus, giving audiences a chance to see a play that remains important and relevant.
