On Global Mountain Day, the Department of Forests urges everyone to protect Cyprus’s mountains. These mountains are vital ecosystems that support life, biodiversity, and the region’s cultural identity.
The announcement points out that the Troodos and Pentadaktylos mountain ranges are ancient geological wonders. They host rich forests, unique plants, and important animal species. Over 130 endemic plants, like the Cyprus cyclamen, and animals such as the mouflon make up a natural treasure that needs ongoing care.
The Department of Forests has been practicing holistic and sustainable forest management for decades. They focus on fire prevention, disease protection, and building recreational and educational facilities. Fire watchtowers, helipads, and protective structures work alongside the preservation of natural beauty, clean air, and water resources.
