SCAMS: New online fraud – €24,000 gone, we still don’t learn from warnings.
Another online scam shows that fraudsters never rest – and sadly, we often let them in. This time, a 49-year-old man fell victim after chatting online with strangers, including a 60-year-old. He lost a total of €24,440.
When they tried to get more money from him – asking for an extra €13,100 to supposedly return his investment profits – the 49-year-old did the right thing this time: he quickly told the police and filed a complaint at the Nicosia CID. After some coordinated investigations and a police operation, where the complainant also helped, evidence came up against a 60-year-old suspect, who was arrested with a court warrant and held for questioning.
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Nicosia CID is handling the case, and investigations are still ongoing.
