SCAMS: New online fraud – €24,000 vanished, we still don’t learn from warnings.
Another online scam shows that fraudsters never rest – and sadly, we often help them. This time, a 49-year-old man fell victim after chatting online with strangers, including a 60-year-old. He lost a total of €24,440.
When they tried to get more money from him – asking for an extra €13,100 to supposedly return his investment profits – the 49-year-old did the right thing. He quickly contacted the Police and filed a complaint with the Nicosia CID. Thanks to coordinated investigations and a police operation, evidence was found against a 60-year-old suspect, who was arrested with a court warrant and is now in custody for further investigation.
The Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Nicosia CID is handling the case, and investigations are still ongoing.
