Three-year-old Angelos, who was tortured to death by his mother and her partner, is finding life – the process of extracting his organs has been completed
Early this morning at PAGNI Hospital, an operation to extract organs from a little boy diagnosed with brain death after being abused by his mother and her partner in Heraklion was completed.
The touching moments took place at Heraklion Hospital. Before beginning the procedure to extract little Angel’s organs, doctors observed a moment of silence in memory of the little boy who lost his life so unjustly.
“Minute of silence” from the surgical teams as a small tribute to the little Angel who gave life to our sick brethren. We express our sincere gratitude to the administration, the pediatric intensive care unit and all the staff of Pa.GN. Heraklion, as well as the First Instance Prosecutor’s Office of Heraklion for their excellent cooperation. Huge respect to the little boy’s grandmother for her decision to become a donor. “We hope that this act will ease her unspeakable pain,” the Greek Transplant Organization said in a statement.
Two EKAB ambulances, accompanied by police patrol cars, reportedly left for Heraklion airport shortly before 7am, carrying little Angelos’ heart and kidneys.
The heart will be transported to a hospital in Berlin, while the kidneys were received by a medical team in Athens.
