A surface archaeological survey took place in late October 2025 in the area of Amargeti. A team from the University of Graz uncovered important evidence of human activity from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages.
The Department of Antiquities reported many ceramic findings at different locations. This shows how people used the landscape over a long time. At Asomatos, they found medieval and archaic ceramics. Loura tou Arkana showed signs of Iron Age activity. Roman presence was noted at several sites with pottery shards and building materials.
The Bronze Age findings at Teratsoudi and Sotira are especially important. They discovered Middle Bronze Age objects, marking the first documented activity from this period in the Amargeti area.
They also found traces of an ancient road network near the bridge at Routhounia. In the Acheron forest, about 70 looted chamber tombs and ceramic shards were recorded using a drone, including one from the Iron Age.
