The game for the 17th round of the 1st phase of the OPAP Basket League Championship was completed with a victory for Anorthosis, as the Famagusta team beat Achilleas 100-68 on the road.
The score was 44-31 at halftime and Smith (20 points, 28 points) led the way.
After the 1st quarter, where the slow pace was the main element, this time Anorthosis led 17-15.
The guests started better and maintained a small lead, already in the 5th minute they were ahead 10:5 and then Achilleas, finding solutions, reduced the difference a bit and the first half ended 17:15 in favour of Anorthosis.
Achilleas was noticeably better at the beginning of the 2nd quarter, with Hamilton being the main source of danger for Anorthosis’ basket. The hosts created a 12-3 burst and led 27-20.
But then the picture changed when Anorthosis responded and went on a 14-0 run to take a 34-27 lead, which occurred in the 18th minute.
By the end of the half, Anorthosis led 44-31.
In the third quarter, the main element was the imposition of a fast pace by the Famagusta team, which found solutions through various players and methods, with Smith as the main representative.
Just before the 30th minute, the difference increased to 27 points and Anorthosis led 73-49 at the 30th minute.
The game was essentially decided, although there was still one quarter left before the game was over.
Achilleas continued to try to close the gap, but did not achieve any significant results.
After the score reached 88-57 in the 35th minute, Anorthosis finally took the victory with a score of 100-68.
