Charalampos Charalambous has resigned as Director of the President’s Office through a social media post.
In his post, Mr. Charalambous says there is a “targeted effort to personally harm the President of the Republic, challenge the Government, and damage our country’s image,” adding that his role is being misrepresented through what he calls deliberate distortions and selective references.
He stresses that he has always supported President Nikos Christodoulides, without any political ambitions, just wanting to serve the country. He insists he won’t accept any doubts about his integrity. He has already given a statement to the relevant authorities, sharing – as he claims – the truth and real context of the issues raised.
Mr. Charalambous explains that he resigned for transparency reasons, so his presence wouldn’t be used against the Government, the President, or Cyprus. He emphasizes that protecting institutions and the country is his top priority.
In closing, he says he leaves “with a sense of pride” for what has been accomplished over the past three years. He believes the Government will continue to work for citizens and national goals, stating that “Cyprus is above everyone and everything.”
It’s noted that after a controversial video was released, opposition parties called for his immediate removal from the Presidential Office, while DIKO also asked for his resignation.

I have always believed in and supported President Nikos Christodoulides in our joint effort to improve our country and strengthen all aspects of the Republic of Cyprus with careful planning. I have never had political ambitions or sought any position. My role in the Government was a conscious choice to help with an ambitious program aimed at strengthening our country, protecting institutions, and advancing our society.
Recently, there has been a targeted effort to harm the President personally, challenge the Government, and damage our country’s image. My involvement is being misused through deliberate distortions and selective references that lead to misleading conclusions without considering the real facts as they will emerge from legitimate processes. This undermines not just individuals but also trust in our institutions. That’s why I made a statement yesterday to clarify the truth I have always served and provide context to my selectively presented references.
I will not accept any doubts about my integrity or my sincere intention to serve my country. I won’t let my role in Government be used as a tool to harm Cyprus or the President. That’s why I resigned as Director of the President’s Office.
For me, protecting our country, Government, and President is a primary duty. At a time when our country needs stability and clear political discourse, I choose to resign for transparency so my presence doesn’t continue to be used against our national goals.
All democratic institutions must work to restore truth and reveal those behind this attack. I leave with pride for what we’ve achieved over these past three years through hard work by both the President and Government. I truly believe this path will continue, ensuring our country stays committed to its principles while improving its international standing for citizens’ benefit and national goals. This is essential; Cyprus comes first above everything else.
