The famous Cypriot chef Andreas Mavrommatis has passed away. He cherished his roots from Agios Ioannis Pitsilia and leaves behind a rich legacy of values and creativity.
His work will live on through donations made instead of wreaths at his funeral. These donations will help local children who dream of studying. The funeral will take place on Sunday, March 22, at 13:00, at the Church of Archangel Michael in Agios Ioannis Pitsilia. The family will accept condolences from 12:00 to 13:00.
This renowned chef, who brought Greek and Cypriot cuisine to France and earned a Michelin star, died at the age of 69. His family asks that donations be made to support the children of Agios Ioannis Pitsilia instead of wreaths. This continues his commitment to future generations. In 1981, he opened a delicatessen and grocery store with his brother, followed by the bistro Les Délices d’Aphrodite. He also trained at the Lenôtre Culinary Arts School, before launching the restaurant Mavrommatis, which received a Michelin star in 2018. This made him one of the most recognized ambassadors of Greek and Cypriot cuisine abroad.
