President Nikos Christodoulides is set to meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres next week in Brussels, on the sidelines of the European Council.
Although a new Middle East crisis has erupted, the schedule remains unchanged. The meeting had been arranged earlier and is still viewed as a key step for the Cyprus issue.
A central point remains the letter the President sent to Mr. Guterres in February. In it, he argued that neither Cyprus’ EU Council Presidency nor the parliamentary elections in May should be used to freeze the process.
The President reaffirmed the core settlement parameters — one sovereignty, one international personality, and one citizenship — while clearly rejecting partition-based scenarios. He also stressed that talks should resume from where they stopped at Crans-Montana, preserving the acquis of that phase.
The Brussels meeting is expected to show whether the UN-led track can remain active and move toward the next stage.
