A low-pressure system and a cold air mass are bringing wintry weather to the area.
Today, expect lots of clouds with some rain and isolated thunderstorms, especially in the west, north, and mountains. Rain is also possible inland. In the higher Troodos areas, snow is falling heavily at times. Winds are coming from the northwest and are strong, reaching 4 to 5 Beaufort, and locally 5 to 6 Beaufort, especially along the coast. The sea is rough to very rough in the west and north, while it’s choppy in the south and east. Temperatures are around 12 degrees Celsius inland, 15 on the coast, and just 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost and fog limit visibility.
At night, the weather will get a bit better with partly cloudy skies and some showers mainly in the west and north. Snow may still fall in the higher mountains. Winds will calm down but can still be strong near the coast. Temperatures will drop to about 4 degrees Celsius inland, 6 to 8 degrees on the coast, and minus 4 degrees in the higher mountains where frost will stick around.
On Wednesday and Thursday, expect clearer weather with some clouds. On Friday, more clouds and isolated showers are likely again, mainly in mountainous areas. In the higher parts of Troodos, there might be sleet or snow.
Temperatures will rise through the end of the week, getting closer to normal for this time of year. The snow depth at Chionistra was 22 centimeters when this report was made.
