A serious complaint regarding the conduct of a high-school teacher was submitted to Cyprus’s Independent Authority Against Corruption, with allegations of insulting remarks toward students from vulnerable social groups.
According to the published information, the teacher allegedly made public comments in class about students’ personal hygiene, clothing, and personal difficulties, creating a degrading atmosphere.
After a preliminary review, the Authority said the material raises issues that may touch on legal violations. However, it also clarified that substantive handling of the case falls outside its direct mandate.
For that reason, the file was forwarded to the Director General of the Ministry of Education and to the Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights for further assessment and action within their competences.
The development has renewed debate about safeguarding vulnerable pupils and enforcing pedagogical responsibility in schools.
