The Legal Service has concluded that a criminal investigation against EDEK MP Marinos Sizopoulos is justified, five months after the Anti-Corruption Authority’s report.
According to reports, a request will soon be submitted to the Supreme Court to lift his parliamentary immunity — a procedure similar to the recent case of DISY MP Nikos Sykas. Without lifting immunity, he cannot be summoned for investigative testimony.
The Anti-Corruption Authority, in a report forwarded to Attorney General Giorgos Savvidis on 11 September 2025, recommended that Sizopoulos be investigated for serious offences: fraud, forgery, production and circulation of forged documents, and conspiracy to defraud.
The case originated from complaints filed by former EDEK MP Giorgos Varnavas, who implicates Sizopoulos in obtaining a “golden” passport through false pretences, via a company where the former EDEK chairman served as director and from which he derived financial benefit.
Two inspection officers were appointed to investigate: former judge Sotiris Liasidis and lawyer Nikolas Constantinou. For his part, Marinos Sizopoulos categorically rejects all allegations, maintaining that he was the victim of deception by a former associate.
