A big moment for Cypriot literature came when folk poet Antonis Gabriel Papas was included in the 2nd international collectible anthology ‘Contemporary Greek Poets 2025.’
Among 56 creators from Greece and beyond, he was the only representative from Cyprus in this edition, published every ten years by the Group for UNESCO Arts, Literature and Sciences of Greece. His inclusion raises Cyprus’s profile, showing that his work is recognized internationally and shining a light on Cypriot literature.
The presentation happened in Greece, in front of artists, cultural figures, and politicians, adding to the honor of this achievement. Antonis Gabriel Papas has received many awards, including the ‘Golden Pen’ and the Language Excellence Award from well-known literary platforms. His works have appeared in anthologies and at international festivals.
A key milestone is his book ‘Cypriot Fairy Tales,’ which was bought by the Ministry of Education and given to all primary schools in Cyprus, as well as to community schools in England. Another highlight was his poem ‘Safety at Work,’ chosen to represent Cyprus in Brussels, where 27 poems were presented—one for each EU country.
