PASYKAF fully supports the National Cancer Institute’s operation. The goal is to make it a modern, reliable, and effective center for cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and care in Cyprus.
The Association announced that the Council of Ministers approved the bill “The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Law of 2026” on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. This is a big step towards better coordination and management of cancer issues in the country. The Institute will work as an independent scientific body. It will organize, coordinate, and supervise oncology services to improve their effectiveness.
Creating the National Cancer Institute has been a top priority for PASYKAF for years. Since 2016, they have proposed this to the Ministry of Health and the National Cancer Committee. This need was also highlighted in the National Cancer Strategy of 2019.
The Executive Director of PASYKAF, Mr. Nikolas Philippou, said that approving the bill is a major development for the country and for everyone affected by cancer. He hopes the processes will move quickly so the Institute can start working soon, greatly improving patient care and quality of life.
