Today’s cultural scene in Cyprus is buzzing with music, theater, exhibitions, and movies for everyone.
Nicosia is alive with music. At 8 p.m., the Strovolos Municipal Theatre features soloists from the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra of Vienna. They will perform beautiful waltzes and polkas by the famous Strauss family, celebrating Viennese music.
At 8:30 p.m., Prozac hosts Freedom Candlemaker’s annual ‘pilgrimage.’ This year, he’s joined by Nama Dama and Cemre Arca for a live show filled with ritual and atmosphere. Earlier, at 4 p.m., the Dendro Theatre presents ‘Furry Tails: Traveling with the Animals of the World.’ This fun mix of fairy tales and music is perfect for kids and families.
Theater is also thriving during the holiday season. In Limassol, at 8 p.m., ETHAL Theatre showcases Marina Makri’s play ‘The Chandelier.’ It offers a sharp look at a typical Cypriot family gathering, created in collaboration with the enact group.
In Nicosia, WhereHaus 612 features ‘The Return of Fairy Tales’ by Georgia Paraskeva at 3 p.m. This modern take on classic fairy tale heroes tackles new tech challenges.
Meanwhile, at 4:30 p.m., Maskarini Theatre presents ‘Christmas Tales.’ This interactive show is full of laughter and emotion, aimed at children and families.
Nicosia also has a vibrant art scene. At NiMAC, check out the group exhibition ‘Fluid Persistence,’ featuring 19 artists who explore ecological issues and the power of water.
At Apokalipsi, see ‘Parallel Artistic Pursuits’ by Marios and Anna Varella. Isnotgallery has the group exhibition ‘Electric Dreams.’ You can find paintings at Marginalia with Dimitris Papanikolaou’s ‘Condition’ and at Golden Gallery with works by Kapatays and Dimitris Yeros.
Group exhibitions are also on display at Stand in Line and Gloria spaces. Rodax Art Gallery features Marios Kourouniotis’s photo exhibition ‘From Chaos to Weaving.’ In Town Hall Square, Maurice Cazzolli’s installation ‘Water Movement Nicosia’ celebrates the Austrian Embassy’s anniversary in Cyprus.
Leventis Gallery and Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation also host important exhibitions.
Art events are happening outside the capital too. In Larnaca, the Municipal Gallery showcases Marios Spiliopoulos’s community project ‘Traces of People IV – (The Dialogue of Worlds).’
In Limassol, exhibitions are featured at PSI Foundation, Edit Gallery, 3FHome, and 125 Space. These cover topics from nature to personal stories. In Paphos, Yiannis Sakellis’s exhibition ‘Where Figures Drift’ is on display at CAP St George Hotel & Resort.
The film lineup adds to today’s cultural offerings with new releases like the Greek film ‘Kapodistrias,’ SpongeBob’s latest adventure, and Paul Feig’s ‘The Housemaid.’ Popular films continue to screen in RIO cinemas in Nicosia and Limassol. In Nicosia, Pantheon Cinema Theatre screens ‘Kapodistrias’ at 8:30 p.m., bringing history to life on the big screen.
