In a related statement, the Authority explains it doesn’t have control over issues managed by other state or private entities. However, it highlights its role in mediating and supporting efforts to improve regulations and tackle practices that disrupt public order.
The Authority mentions that specific measures are already in place at airports to ensure compliance. These include banning entry for violators and enforcing time limits and mandatory pre-booking through vouchers. It also points out that necessary changes take time and require teamwork from all parties involved; they can’t happen through one-sided actions or pressure.
In this light, the Licensing Authority suggests changes to legislation and creating mediation services, including penalties for anyone involved in illegal practices. It also recommends reviewing the rules for taxi passage, movement, and parking at airports.
Meanwhile, the Nicosia Taxi Union shows support for Larnaca taxi drivers. They note that the problems causing the strikes are long-standing and affect the whole sector. Key issues include competition from unlicensed drivers, unfair competition from transport apps not following regulations, and the need for thorough inspections.
The Union calls for strict enforcement of laws, protection of legal drivers, and solutions to ongoing problems. It promises to keep supporting its colleagues in their demands.
