A huge haul of 233 kilograms of drugs, plus weapons and explosives, was seized in Nicosia by YKAN. This operation shows the serious problem of illegal drug trafficking in Cyprus and sends a strong message of zero tolerance.
Cyprus Police had a big win yesterday in Nicosia, arresting two people and seizing 233 kilograms of narcotics, weapons, and explosives. The Anti-Drug Service (YKAN) led this operation as part of their ongoing fight against organized crime and drug trafficking.
During a vehicle check, authorities found 11,480 firecrackers, along with cannabis, cocaine, white powder, and other illegal drugs in the possession of the two suspects. They then searched homes linked to the detainees.
The searches uncovered 167 kg of dry plant cannabis, 62 kg of cocaine, and 4.5 kg of cannabis resin. They also found a pistol, revolver, and replica pistol, along with two homemade low-power bombs and several 9mm cartridges. Additionally, they seized €12,765 and 381 electronic cigarettes, which may have contained drugs.
On Twitter, President Nikos Christodoulides highlighted that this success shows how important targeted actions by the Police and YKAN are for protecting young people and strengthening society. He reminded everyone that fighting illegal drug trafficking is a top priority to prevent addiction and ensure safety for citizens.
The two detainees will soon appear before the Nicosia District Court for a detention order. Investigations are ongoing to identify others involved and any illegal activities.
