Cyprus Police has moved to an enhanced security posture following the latest Middle East developments and the drone incident at the British base in Akrotiri. The focus is on schools attended mainly by Israeli and French children, hotels hosting Israeli guests, embassies, and other sensitive sites.
According to the latest assessments, police orders were changed from yesterday afternoon, with measures expanded to shopping centers and gathering points used by foreign nationals. In some private schools, static guards have been deployed from morning arrival until closure.
A Crisis Management Center is operating at Police Headquarters, and a supervising officer has been appointed for immediate reporting of any suspicious incident. Crime Prevention and Rapid Response patrols have been instructed to stop suspicious persons and request backup without delay. The operation also includes the “Z” unit, traffic police, and local stations.
At the same time, police remain in constant contact with affected foreign missions. Embassies are operating under fortress-level protection and are not receiving the public, even by appointment. Police have recalled personnel from leave, while more than 180 locations are now under mobile and static surveillance.
Monitored sites include hotels, the Limassol casino, companies with Israeli interests, and critical facilities. In parallel, an espionage case involving two suspects remains under investigation, with both due back in court for detention renewal. The Justice Minister reiterated that the Republic of Cyprus is not a target and urged the public to rely only on trusted media.
