Cyprus’ Legal Council is moving to overhaul the training and assessment model for trainee lawyers, aiming to align legal preparation with today’s professional demands.
The new framework will take effect on 1 July 2030. Trainees already registered—or registering by 30 June 2030—will remain under the current system and may complete it by June 2032.
The revised model introduces five core training modules covering key legal fields, procedural law, professional ethics and practical court operation. Classes will be delivered remotely from October through April.
At least 70% attendance will be required for exam eligibility. Exams will be held three times per year, and trainees must score at least 50% in each subject within a defined exam cycle.
The Council also stresses that practical work remains central: trainees will have to complete specific hands-on tasks so final qualification reflects real professional readiness, not only theoretical knowledge.
