Nicosia is making progress on the Metropolitan Park of Western Nicosia at the State Fairgrounds. This will be Cyprus’s biggest green space. The area will turn into a compact, natural park, keeping Engomi and nearby areas free from concrete.
Mayor Charalampos Prountzos says the tripartite Committee of Government, Municipality, and EVEL will make final choices in March. Feasibility studies and cost estimates for restoration and beautification are done. An architectural competition for landscaping is also on the way, with the park’s energy mainly coming from renewable sources.
We are also waiting for decisions on using the pavilions, with ideas to host the Museum of Contemporary Art. Flood control projects with rainwater retention lakes will protect Engomi and Agios Dometios. The Mayor stressed that this project will improve citizens’ quality of life, making Nicosia more friendly, sustainable, and eco-friendly.
