The eight defendants want 48,432 documents. They need these to understand the charges against them and review their accusations fully. Today, the position of Director of Central Prisons was announced.
The trial for the Central Prisons documents case is now postponed to February 9. This gives the eight defendants time to review their charges. The defendants include the former director of Central Prisons, Anna Aristotelous, former deputy director Athina Dimitriou, five correctional facility members, and a former member now in the Police.
During the same proceedings, Athina Dimitriou’s lawyer, Sotiris Argyrou, raised a preliminary objection. He argued that her case should stop since she filed a complaint in 2022 against Police officer Michalis Katsounotos with Anna Aristotelous.
Also today, January 30, the Director of Central Prisons position was announced. There are also 88 positions for prison guards. This aims to boost staff and improve management at the correctional facility, which has serious issues and has faced criticism for human rights violations.
