George Georgiou, the Deputy Mayor of Polis Chrysochous and a person with a disability, is unhappy with MEP Mr. Phidias Panayiotou’s remarks about people with disabilities.

He called the comments “unacceptable, offensive, and dangerous,” saying they reinforce stereotypes and hurt human dignity. “This is not humor or a personal opinion,” Mr. Georgiou said. “It directly insults a group that fights for equal rights and respect. Staying silent about this behavior makes you complicit.”

The Deputy Mayor wants Mr. Panayiotou to apologize publicly right away, emphasizing that those in power should protect the rights of people with disabilities instead of mocking or belittling them.
