The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zanettou, said there might be some isolated cases. However, he stressed that these do not represent the area’s overall image. Ayia Napa is still a popular tourist spot. The Municipality plans to inspect places where seasonal staff stay and work with the Ministry of Justice and the Police to ensure everything is legal.
The Police have started their own investigation into these reports. The documentary claims that nightclub owners offered sexual favors to workers. Many British women work illegally, earn very little, and face threats. The journalist points out that similar issues happen in other European countries too.
