A driver was arrested last night in Nicosia for speeding at 160 kilometers per hour in a 50 km/h zone. This happened during nationwide nighttime checks by the Police.
The driver was caught during traffic checks and arrested immediately. He will appear before the Nicosia District Court. This case is serious because the high speed posed a danger to other drivers and pedestrians.
The Police carried out thorough checks across all districts to prevent crime and improve road safety. During this operation, six people were arrested for various offenses, including drunk driving and assault causing actual bodily harm.
During the checks, one driver tested positive for drugs, and another was found driving under the influence of alcohol. In total, 291 traffic violations were recorded, with 109 related to speeding, showing how big the problem is on our roads.
During these operations, 11 vehicles were impounded, and 28 places were checked, leading to one complaint. The Police stopped 529 vehicles and checked a total of 789 people, including drivers and passengers, to boost safety and prevent crime.
