A strong dust storm is hitting Cyprus this afternoon, with high dust levels (orange) in nearly all areas.
Latest data from Kitas Weather shows that by Sunday at 21:00, dust levels reached orange across the island, except in Agia Marina in the mountains, where levels are at the upper limits of yellow. The main dust is coming from the west-southwest, causing haze and reducing visibility significantly in the next few hours.
Dust concentrations are expected to rise to very high levels (red) during the night and stay high until Monday morning or noon. We expect a gradual decrease in dust later in the day, and by evening, it should be completely gone.
People with respiratory issues should avoid unnecessary travel and outdoor activities. Everyone else is also advised to limit exercise and stay indoors until the dust settles.
