A young man who hit a mother and her 15-month-old child on a bike path in Limassol has been found and arrested. The baby is still in Makarios Hospital with a serious head injury.
The 21-year-old man, believed to have caused the accident on December 8 on the coastal road of October 28th, is now in police custody. He had been on the run for over three weeks after leaving the scene right after the crash.
The timeline of the incident
This case raised a lot of public concern because it involved a 43-year-old mother and her baby. The woman, from Ukraine, was using a legal pedestrian crossing that met the bike path while holding her child.
According to the police report:
- The 21-year-old e-scooter driver crashed into them forcefully.
- The impact threw the 15-month-old girl to the ground, causing a serious head injury.
- Even though he fell off his scooter too, the driver did not help and ran away.
The child’s health condition
The baby was rushed to Archbishop Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia, where doctors are carefully watching her health. The arrest of the 21-year-old is important because police had a description and video evidence from the area, which helped identify him.
