The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) set out its position on power adequacy, electricity costs, renewable deployment and grid resilience. Management said decisions must remain evidence-based as demand rises and older units face technical and environmental constraints.
The Dhekelia station was highlighted as a strategic priority. EAC said upgrades and phased unit replacement are necessary to secure a second stable generation point, protect supply security and enable higher renewable penetration.
On renewables, the authority stressed that a construction license alone does not guarantee rapid delivery. Urban-planning procedures, building permits and network-connection limits continue to affect implementation timelines.
EAC also pointed to an ongoing transmission and distribution upgrade program, including projects linked to EU funding in order to limit the burden on consumers. At the same time, it emphasized mounting system pressure from growing RES capacity and the need for storage infrastructure.
According to the authority, a reliable and affordable transition requires faster permitting, coordinated project maturation and steady infrastructure investment.
