Deeply moved, the mother of three-time Gold Paralympian, Elena, listened to the interview given by Carolina Peledritou on “Stories Behind the Lights” in Greece and could not hold back her tears.
Her voice “broke” as her daughter publicly shared truths that carry years of sacrifice, prayer, and faith — from the time she was just a little girl. “God chose me to be your guardian angel,” she said, trembling with emotion.
“He guided me, gave me strength, placed enlightened people on our path… but I had to be there. Next to you. In the easy times and the hard.” With pride, she recalled 2004, the year Carolina suddenly found herself at the center of global attention — a child caught in a storm of light and publicity.
What she desired most was for her daughter to remain grounded, true, and faithful to her struggle. “My goal was for you to stay humble. Not to lose who you are,” she said. “And today I feel proud. You have become a personality that paves the way, that brings light… and that is my greatest reward.” Her words — genuine, direct, and moving. She concludes: “God chose me and guided me to strength. Today I feel complete.”
A confession that is not merely a statement. It is the soul of a mother who stood as a rock, root, and angel — as true mothers always do. As she said… “I was chosen by God to be your mother… and to empower you to open paths… The blessing is that you remained humble…”
