The Equality Union’s Police Branch has shared new measures to cut leave days for security force members. They informed both their members and the media.
They are also calling on security force members and their families to join a symbolic protest outside Parliament. This protest will happen while the Legal Committee discusses the issue. The Branch hopes the President of Parliament will schedule an immediate session and wants all party leaders to attend.
Moreover, they will make public a letter sent to the President of MEPA. This letter addresses the Equality Union not being invited to a session next week. According to the Equality Union, their absence could favor the Ministry of Justice and the Chief of Police over the only police union that is present.
The Branch has also reached out to EuroCOP. They want to inform Europe about what they call a unilateral and illegal decision that affects police officers’ labor rights. Lastly, they announced plans to start legal proceedings in Cypriot courts regarding the reduction of leave days.
