Remarks by President Nikos Christodoulides on the role of Turkish Cypriots and Turkey in discussions over the British Bases triggered a sharp response from the Turkish Cypriot side.
Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman accused the President of contradictory and hasty statements, arguing that Nicosia’s position keeps shifting without strategic consistency.
In his public intervention, Erhurman referred both to recent comments about a “clear plan” and to earlier policy lines, saying the latest rhetoric moves beyond the bounds of logic and reality.
He called for a more serious and stable approach, pointing to key milestones of past Cyprus talks as a more credible basis for substantive political engagement.
