A blast around 3:00 AM on Tuesday turned a restaurant in Nicosia into ashes. It was at the corner of Ezekia Papaioannou and Chytron, causing worry among local residents.
The explosion sparked a fire that quickly spread through the restaurant. Police say early reports suggest it might have been a gas leak. The restaurant was heavily damaged, with the fire destroying the cooking area and dining space. The building’s outer walls were also harmed by the intense heat and smoke.
The apartment building sharing the same structure was also impacted. Residents were evacuated as a safety measure, but no injuries were reported. Three fire engines rushed to put out the fire, with firefighters using hoses and breathing gear. The area is still secured, and investigations to find out what caused the explosion will continue throughout the day.
