The National Guard and Police are still investigating the 13.6 kg of TNT that went missing from the Kalo Chorio firing range in Larnaca.
Christos Pieris, the Ministry of Defense Spokesperson, told the Cyprus News Agency that two explosive devices meant for destroying shells were involved, weighing a total of 30 pounds (about 13.6 kg). The explosion was planned for around 2 PM but didn’t happen. Safety rules required waiting an hour before entering the area. When they arrived at 3 PM, they found the explosives were gone.
The heads of the National Guard and Police were notified right away, and the area was sealed off to collect evidence. Investigations are ongoing, with statements being taken and thorough searches by the Authorities. The most likely explanation is that the explosives were either moved or stolen. Authorities are staying alert until the explosives are found and safety is restored in the area.
